Work-related morbidity profile among software professionals in Chennai, Tamil Nadu: A pre-pandemic, cross-sectional study

Introduction Computers have become ubiquitous in today's world and considerable impact on human health. This study was planned to assess the common work-related morbidity among software professionals a selected firm Chennai, Tamil Nadu identify role of occupational characteristics ergonomics workstation profile participants. Materials methods descriptive, cross-sectional conducted between January February 2020 160 employees Nadu, using pretested, semi-structured questionnaire consisting sociodemographic characteristics, including perceived stress scale ergonomics. A p value <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results The response rate 98.1% (152 participants). Among 152 who participated, 88.8% reported morbidity; 75.7% 74.3% visual musculoskeletal symptoms respectively. Eye strain (52%) pain (49.3%) respectively were commonest reported; 56.6% moderate 12.5% high levels stress. occurrence significantly associated with gender, duration work experience, work-hours per day poor (P<0.05). Conclusion Our identifies burden professionals. It is essential adopt pro-active, multi-disciplinary approach focus social factors prevention morbidity.
